The Story of RELEEV

I invented Viracea, because I decided to find a natural treatment that really works on the herpes virus. First, I believe that there is a cure or treatment for any disease state to be found in nature. I believe that God, or whatever the "powers that be", created this planet, and all inhabitants thereof, with the ability to heal itself. I also believe that the human body should be treated with more naturally occurring treatments. Quite often synthetic drugs pose greater risk of cyto-toxicity, many times creating new disease states. Second, in 1987 I contracted cold sores from a friend. At that time, I didn't know that cold sores were contagious or caused by the herpes virus. I had never experienced anything like it. The pain was excruciating. The right side of my face would swell and I would get a terrible blister in the corner of my lips that lasted for 10 days or longer. These outbreaks occurred monthly. I was unwilling to live my life in this manner and felt that I needed to do something.

When I researched what was available to treat this, the only product available then was Zovirax (acyclovir). After researching this drug, I refused to use it, it just wasn’t right for me. I looked into what was available in natural products - there was nothing. My background is in microbiology but my passion in my studies since I was a child was learning about plants and researching botanical medicines. Not just botany, but the medical uses of plants. The term is phyto-pharmacology and phyto-pharmacognosy. Because of that interest in plant based medicines, I began researching what plants have been used to treat cold sores. I tried everything suggested. Nothing worked.

I decided to set up a formulation research project to invent something that really worked. I’m not unlike most people, I want something that really works and works fast. I spent almost 18 months testing hundreds of compounds that I formulated. It was very frustrating. Nothing that had ever been known to have the slightest effect on infections worked on cold sores. I was thoroughly frustrated by the lack of progress. One day, as a new cold sore began to emerge, I decided to try a plant that I had used on a badly infected blister I had gotten while hiking years before. At the time it was not listed anywhere as an anti-microbial, nor were its uses indicated for this treatment. But, I had nothing to lose, decided to prepare a mixture and give it a try. A few minutes after applying it my cold sore seemed a little better. It wasn't a really big improvement, but it was the first time that there was any difference at all. I began to evaluate what I could do to the formula or add to it to improve it. Dreading another ten days or longer with a painful, disfiguring cold sore, I think I called upon the "powers that be" that day and then took an "Einstein nap." When I woke, I truly felt inspired. A particular compound occurred to me. It was a compound that I remembered my mother using when I was younger and got a scrape or cut. Although not available in stores, I had always kept some of this compound in my cabinet. I decided to try it. I first applied it by itself – it stinged but nothing - there was no improvement at all. Still inspired, I tried mixing it a certain way with the plant material that I had tested earlier. I applied this mixture directly to my painful cold sore. At first, it tingled a bit; then the pain began to ease. In about five minutes the pain was gone! I went to the mirror and could actually watch the swelling in my face reducing. I applied more at 6:00 PM and again before bed. When I woke the next day the cold sore was gone. WOW! Twenty-one hours after applying my new compound, there was not a trace of any cold sore. I was ecstatic, at least at first, then, I thought it must have been a fluke. I called my friend and asked him to use it the next time he got a cold sore. He called not long after to tell me he was getting an outbreak. He tested my formula and his symptoms resolved the same way and he too healed fast. The next month I tried it again and again it worked so fast I could hardly believe it. I then gave it to a friend from one of the classes I tutored who learned of my research project and asked if she could try my formula. She had confided in me that she had contracted genital herpes. She came back two weeks later absolutely ecstatic. My formula had worked miraculously, when nothing else she tried had ever worked.

I set up a research program with a few volunteers in order to gather some preliminary clinical data. The results were always the same. In 100 outbreaks, Symptoms were gone in minutes and healing of the outbreak was faster than anything known. I thought about the millions of people who suffer terribly from herpes outbreaks and how my formula might really help them.

At that time, my formulation was far from marketable so I spent the next years developing it into a product that could be manufactured in mass and obtaining a patent on it. Over the years I invested everything I had to get my product out to people. I have been very guided and blessed. Dr. Ken Thompson at The University of Chicago microbiology laboratories took an interest in my formula and conducted the initial in vitro studies. It was very rewarding when his tests demonstrated efficacy of my formula against the herpes virus, both 1 and 2. He and I authored several abstracts which were presented at various scientific functions. He went on to publish his findings in Antiviral Research. Since then clinical trials have been completed with outstanding results and are expected to be published. A variation of my initial formula was tested for efficacy on HIV at The Frederick Research Center by Dr. Robert Buckheit, he believed that one mode of action of my formula might be its ability to inhibit the attachment of the virus to the target cell. Dr. Thompson however, believed there may be an additional mode of action.

I named my formula Viracea. It is now being marketed under the name RELEEV and is available at most major retailers in the U.S. Sales have been outstanding, growing mostly by word of mouth. We receive numerous letters from very grateful customers who have used RELEEV successfully.

Although it was very difficult bringing this product to market, it's a wonderful feeling knowing that I helped improve peoples’ lives.
